The prickly, green, coniferous trees covering the Central Texas hills and landscapes, we call it “cedar.”
As Susan O’Donnel, senior senior biologist for the City of Austin Balcones Canyonlands Preserve, mentioned to KVUE-TV, the trees we call cedar are actually not cedar.
These trees are actually in the cypress family and are ashe juniper. “There’s pollen dating back to the Pleistocene,” O’Donnell said. “So, these trees have been here for a really, really long time.”
So are the allergies, here from a long time!
Allergy symptoms known as “cedar fever” can been seen a couple of weeks after a freeze. Early freeze and cold weather is predicted and could act as a trigger for bringing on cedar pollination.
To stay safe and ahead of the allergy season, Dr. Gaglani at Allergy and Asthma Clinic recommends to get an allergy test to find out exactly what you are allergic to.
If you experience the ‘cedar fever’ symptoms such as Runny nose, itchy and watery eyes and fatigue, Allergies and Asthma Clinic suggests to consult a allergy physician for the medication.
If it is a severe case, Allergy and Asthma Clinic at Austin, TX and Round Rock, TX offers same day appointment.
Don’t wait to get hit by the allergy – Call Austin (512) 804 0000 or Round Rock (512) 804 0999 to request an appointment.
